About the Curriculum
The Curriculum of Lighthouse Ministries
Lighthouse Christian Academy uses the time proven curriculum of Accelerated Christian Education. A.C.E. has published individualized curriculum and provided training in its implementation for grades K-12 since 1970. Students are tested diagnostically upon entering Lighthouse Christian Academy. They are then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own performance levels, as determined by the results of the diagnostic tests.
The individualized format of the curriculum allows students to advance from Pace to Pace as they demonstrate mastery. Students are allowed to move independently through the curriculum under the supervision of instructors. These instructors provide tutoring when the student has difficulty understanding the material.
Accelerated Christian Education curriculum is more than just quality academics. This curriculum is built on a theistic philosophic foundation. For this reason, students also learn to see life from God's point of view. Their personal relationship with God and their personal responsibilities to family, church, and community are also addressed.
Why Accelerated Christian Education?
A.C.E. has been carefully tested in several surveys over the years and consistently shows an average score higher than 65% of the norm. Where normal schools must target the average student, A.C.E. can focus on the particular needs of each student. Most of the students coming to Lighthouse Ministries have been socially promoted and are in need of specialized instruction. We feel that mastery of the fundamentals is important for the success of any girl. We concentrate on these fundamentals in English and Math. Historically, girls leaving Lighthouse after a year to attend another school have done exceptionally well in their academics. Many others have stayed to receive their High School diplomas from Lighthouse Christian Academy and then gone straight to college. A.C.E. generally starts easy for your daughter and then accelerates gradually to bring her to grade level as quickly as possible.
The Four Keys to Accelerated Christian Education
The A.C.E. Curriculum adapts to the learning speed of your daughter. In the "Public School Model" the group is lock-stepped regardless of the student's academic abilities. The A.C.E. Model allows your daughter to progress independently through the curriculum and not as a lock-stepped group. The "Public School Model" holds back the faster learner and forces all the students forward regardless of whether or not they have learned the material. The A.C.E. Model allows the faster student to progress and the slower student to master the skill and not be left behind the group.
The child is given a series of diagnostic tests to determine their current academic ability. These tests clearly identify any learning gaps within all subjects. For example, your daughter's English grammar skills will probably be below grade level; however, their punctuation skills may be above grade level. Your daughter is then placed in the curriculum at her academic performance grade level in each subject. Any learning gaps are then addressed.
3. Goal Setting
The students learn how to set daily goals. This key to learning allows the child to visualize and plan daily progress. This unique discipline of A.C.E. places responsibility and accountability on the student for learning, thus establishing a lifetime appreciation for goal setting and achievement.
The Biblical value of excellence in all things we do is translated into mastering subject content. This is the foundation upon which all future learning is built. The A.C.E. Model reinforces honest achievement that results in advancement. Students must master a minimum of 80% of the material before advancing.
